A guy on CNBC, I think said China is building 50 NEW airports. A staggering idea when he said he could not remember the last time the US built one!!

Are all of those airport major international airports, or regional airports? Given that China is spending a total of US$20B on the 50 new airports, they can't all be major airports like what a large US city has.

Also,

Under construction:

newindianapolisairport.com

They are essentially building new airports in the place of Dulles (Washington DC) and Hartsfield (Atlanta):

Apparently Austin got a new airport in '99:

And, didn't Denver get a new airport in '95 or '96?

Perhaps a salient difference between the US and China is that in the US, environmental groups get access to the courts and media, while in China, they simply mow down such activists with tanks or send them to work in labor camps.
