TJ, you greatly overestimate the importance of factory production. As you well know, the lion's share of the value in a product is in the conception, design, and marketing. If I am not mistaken, the typical share of manufacturing is less than 20%. So, who invented Google, the Ipod, YouTube, etc. etc. etc. ??? The only reason the US is running huge deficits right now is bad governance by politicians with no vision and no forethought. But they are watching the rise of the wealth funds and even they are starting to understand that deficits do matter. Watch what happens after next year's recession.
