I think Kenneth is right. However, many registered Democrats in the south are actually independants or Republicans. I know of some people who changed their minds about political affiliation years ago and never bothered to change their registeration. After all you can be a Democrat and vote in the Republican primary in Georgia, or vote for the Democrat you think would do the worst. Republicans voted Cynthia McKinny out of office by voting for her opposition during the primarys years ago, but she was back in office two years later.
