Finland's PM to visit South America

Matti Vanhanen (centre), Finland's prime minister, is to start a one-week official visit of South America on Sunday, the prime minister's office announced in a statement on Monday.

Mr Vanhanen's first stop is to be Brazil, where he is scheduled to visit the cities of Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo and Brasilia, meeting both political and business leaders.

During his visit Mr Vanhanen is to hold talks with Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, the president of Brazil, concerning climate change, energy issues and bilateral relations between Finland and Brazil.

On Friday, 16 May, Mr Vanhanen is to participate in the European Union-Latin America and Caribbean (EU-LAC) summit in Lima, Peru.

The prime minister is scheduled to return to Finland on Saturday, 17 May.
