Lucky decision, in hindsight, as we would have been buying in 1989, at or very close to the top of the market.

Maybe, maybe not. Boston recovered fairly quickly, and the gains of the late 90s and early 2000s far outpaced the gains of the late 80s. We bought near Boston in 1998 and sold in 2006 for over double the original price. I haven't been following the market since 2006.
