i remember going to one free dinner for financial information. i think it was put on by sun america. a canada firm associated with aig. later i had lawyer and cpa give me a half hour presentation at their office on the main line. Basically, it was turn over my retirement savings to them to manage by buying fee mutual funds.. so my first impression was this was all a sales gimmic to get an 8% off the top of my hard earn savings. I couldn't see any reason to give them 8% off my earning base when if i wanted mutual funds i could buy vanguard index funds or speciality funds as very low rates. In stead i started by doing a search at the library of the top mutual rated funds and recorded the top ten or twenty holdings.. then i ran that across to come with top twenty holdings by all institutions. and bought those companies through white a discount broker where i transferred everything into a self directed ira. Oh, as i left the meeting the cpa says to me,, you know you may think that sum is going to last you.. let me tell you it is too small to last more than a few years. well still truckin along.gg bunch of crooks. imo
