I find myself going to Amazon more and more often - and not only for books. They have an enormous assortment of stuff.

Using Firefox's "Hyperwords" extension, when I spotted the scrubber, I highlighted it, right clicked shop/froogle, and got a list of places selling it. Went "low to high," and then checked shipping costs. Ended up having "Linen and Things" ship it for 39 + shipping. Before I did, I checked my local H/W stores, and they were all out of it. And had a higher total price when they did have it.

I picked up pound of ground Flaxseed the same way. Local stores wanted $20. Got it though Amazon for half that, shipped by the shipper. Amazon just acts as clearing house and processes the order and the money.

Yes, progress in distribution and in inventory management had a huge impact. I find myself going to Amazon more and more often - and not only for books. They have an enormous assortment of stuff. And, often enough, it falls under my "Amazon prime" program, and I get it delivered promptly and at no charge.

I also have an Amazon Prime account. Great innovation on Amazon's part to charge an annual fee and in exchange, items ordered from their stores are shipped 2nd day delivery.

It's not free of charge, because you pay an annual fee, but it sure does encourage use of their service.
