Read the article. They were taking constant fire from a certain "white house," for hours and never called in CAS to take it out. Obviously, they didn't have CAS available, which is criminal, didn't have a battery of 105's around to provide an artillery fan, and didn't have permission to wipe it out. When things quieted down, one of the guys got on the roof of the building and taunted them. But they couldn't kill him because he wasn't holding a weapon or firing at them. He needed a 50 Cal from a Barratt sniper rifle up the snout. If UW were online, he would tell you that, in Nam, in the same situation, he could usually call in arty.
