Bush has been a spender, as has all of Washington.

I do find it amazing that some people actually believe that Busg has not spent enough on social programs, when he has spent too much. Look at the increases over Clinton.

It is time to cut spending and reduce the size of our government.

Budget snapshot: Fiscal 2002 vs. 2006

Here is a snapshot of federal spending from fiscal 2002, the first year over which President Bush had full control of the budget, to last year.

*National defense spending grew 64 percent, to $572 billion.

*Spending on education, training, employment and social services grew 33 percent, to $93.9 billion.

*Health spending grew about 37 percent, to $268.5 billion.

*Spending on natural resources and the environment grew 19 percent, to $35.2 billion.

*Transportation spending grew nearly 21 percent, to $74.6 billion.

*Spending on general science, space and technology rose almost 20 percent, to $24.9 billion.

*At the same time, the mandatory programs of Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security have consumed growing shares of the budget, increasing by an average of 9 percent a year.
