I think if you just Google around, you'll find CF bulbs that work with dimmers and CF bulbs to fit just about every weird socket out there.

But the cool new lights are LED's. LED flashlights ROCK. And LED bulbs are going to replace CF's. LED bulbs use a fraction of the energy a CF does, and last FOREVER.

But, they cost a lot right now.

I'm pretty sure that you can use a regular CF if you just leave the rheostat on high. But that's a $6 bet because I'm not sure. But as Chris said there are CFs now available that work with dimmers. I have to find some with the small bases for my outside lights.
