Ethanol from corn is very debateable if it is energy positive. I believe it is slightly positive. If you generate the heat using coal it can be in effect a coal liquefaction process. If you use natural gas - well - it is gas to liquids.

The above aside it is contributing to food inflation. Here there is opportunity for technology to convert waste products and not food to ethanol.

EROEI not quite that bad...optimists say 1.3 barrels out, some say a net loser, cuz you have to haul it; can't go thru pipelines. Thank ADM and MON for the craze.
