ElM, it's always a pleasant surprise when you write things with which I agree. Government-run fiat currencies are means to move value, not stores of value other than for short terms.

Also, the point about value is good. There is an old joke about a ship full of eggs which changed hands many times until one day somebody who had bought it was out of eggs and went and got some. They were rotten! He moaned. It was pointed out to him that the eggs were not actually for eating, they were just for trading purposes. A bit like gold. It just sits in various vaults and isn't intended to be useful.
