ElM, timber in New Zealand is a political hot potato because tree growers are now snookered by global warming. If they cut down their trees, they are considered to be huge polluters. So growing trees has turned out to be a really bad thing to do. Many trees were hacked and land turned back to cow paddocks. Best to ditch the trees. New trees are considered good.

It is a huge rip-off of tree growers who ironically thought they were being environmentally good. In fact, they are better off to get rid of trees and grow grass for cows which emit lots of methane and leave the CO2 in the air.

That's how governments solve "problems" = they make things worse.
