There was a national debate over the war and your side didn't prevail in the contest of ideas.

Yeah, right. Here's your debate: "I don't think we should invade Iraq." "Shut up you anti American, Muslim loving, unpatriotic commie!" End of debate!

Thats a lie. You just don't want to admit there were real security concerns because you don't want there to be.

Second, you must not think 911 was an attack on the US homeland because our troops involvement in Afghanistan is a direct response to that attack. Afghanistan was the base of the terror group which attacked us on 911.

Yes, it is....so why are we in Iraq?

Don't change the topic. You included Afghanistan in the far off countries we're wrongly fighting wars in.

I wasn't changing the subject. If the fighting in Afghanistan is in retaliation for 9/11, why are we in Iraq?

Trying to shift a question about AFghanistan to Iraq is changing the topic.

Why are you refusing to answer the question?

Its not germane to the Afghanistan issue. Raise Iraq separately.

I see.......you don't have an answer.

I gave you an answer - its irrelevant to the issue of Afghanistan. It was an unsuccessful issue to avoid talking about Afghanistan ... that it was unsuccessful - see below:

I did support the police action in Afghanistan in order to apprehend bin Laden and bring him to trial. I oppose the ongoing wars in both Afghanistan and Iraq. These wars could easily bankrupt the country while accomplishing little.

Can you guys not see the forest for the trees?

When did the police action in Afghanistan you supported turn into the war in Afghanistan you oppose?

When GW Bush said that capturing bin Laden was no longer the prime objective.

When did he say that? Or what did he really say?

"I don't know where bin Laden is. I have no idea and really don't care. It's not that important. It's not our priority."
- G.W. Bush, 3/13/02

"I am truly not that concerned about him."
- G.W. Bush, responding to a question about bin Laden's whereabouts,
3/13/02 (The New American, 4/8/02)

You realize AQ is not simply one person? I guess not.

"THE PRESIDENT: Deep in my heart I know the man is on the run, if he's alive at all. Who knows if he's hiding in some cave or not; we haven't heard from him in a long time. And the idea of focusing on one person is -- really indicates to me people don't understand the scope of the mission.

Terror is bigger than one person.
And he's just -- he's a person who's now been marginalized. His network, his host government has been destroyed. He's the ultimate parasite who found weakness, exploited it, and met his match. He is -- as I mentioned in my speech, I do mention the fact that this is a fellow who is willing to commit youngsters to their death and he, himself, tries to hide -- if, in fact, he's hiding at all.

So I don't know where he is. You know, I just don't spend that much time on him, Kelly, to be honest with you. I'm more worried about making sure that our soldiers are well-supplied; that the strategy is clear; that the coalition is strong; that when we find enemy bunched up like we did in Shahikot Mountains, that the military has all the support it needs to go in and do the job, which they did. "

--------------------------------------------------

Can you even begin to understand the frustration people feel with this president?

Yes, I know. He drives leftwingers crazy. Crazier than they otherwise would be anyway. Thats ultimately your own fault.

What other country do you know has a Pentagon or any military headquarters that's as big? The military is big business in the US.

No other country can match our military at present. Thats largely why the world is as free and prosperous as it is.

Much of the world is not free.....I think your imagination has run wild.

Much of the world is, especially as compared to past decades.

Brumar, let me say it does nothing for your case to add a condition when you've been called on a statement that you made previously. It very much weakens your credibility. The fact is most of the world is not free.....it may be less or more in the past 20 years but your statement is still wrong.

I am thinking in terms longer than 20 years. We are living in a very favorable period of history. We'll be fortunate if it lasts. Adopting a policy of military weakness would definitely spur a great deal of aggression beyond what we see now, beyond what you can imagine.

America's ascendance will be remembered as a brief period of peace and prosperity in world history.

Where is the peace? All we do is mostly fight someone. That isn't peace. You sound like doublespeak out of 1984.

Nevertheless the world is mostly peaceful and prosperous compared to most past periods in history.

I am totally stumped as to how you come to that conclusion. Bush has stirred up more ant hills and bee hives in the past 7 years than I care to think about. There was no war in Iraq before Bush. There was no war in Afghanistan before Bush.

You fool. Are you oblivious to even recent history? Do you not know neither Iraq nor Afghanistan was at peace before Bush took office? Why did Clinton have troops in SA and Kuwait? Do you not remember Clinton firing missiles into Sudan and Afghanistan and Iraq? Why did Clinton threaten war with Saddam? Why did the Clinton administration try to build a case for war with Iraq? Why did candidate Gore promise the IRaq National Congress that he'd overthrown Saddam? Do you remember the sanctions regime? The alleged 50K Iraqi babies dying every year as a result? The UN officials resigning over a policy claimed to be genocidal? What happened to the USS Cole? What happened to our embassies in Tanzania and Kenya? Our military's barracks in SA? Do you remember 911 was the SECOND and finally successful attempt to bring down the WTC? Liberal amnesia = a belief everything in the world was peaceful and beautiful till the evil Bush seized power and suddenly we had enemies when before everyone was our friend.

And he has accomplished nothing. The Taliban and al Qaida are resurgent in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Iraq is a country in chaos. It frightens me how blind you all are to the truth. And that's not a new phenomenon.....its been going on for quite some time.

Pakistan, yes. Even though some fighting is going on, they are largely contained. Iraq is not in chaos. Even before the surge, the violence was largly in a handful of Iraqi states.
