"First and foremost, why would a president of the largest democracy in the world ally himself with a military dictator?"

Are you referring to the President of India? Didn't think so. India is the largest democracy in the World.

why would a president of the largest democracy in the world ally himself with a military dictator?

Why did FDR ally with Stalin? There was a really villainous dictator.

There aren't always angels around to choose our allies from.

In the case of Mushareff, he's almost certainly better than an Islamist pro-Taliban pro-Al Qaida dictator would be. However, you should be aware that it was the Bush administration that urged Benazir Bhutto to return to Pakistan to help restore democracy there in hopes that would strengthen the government. They also persuaded Mushareff to resign from the army and run for election.

Secondly, at one point do you begin to take stock and realize that all the billions you are sending this guy are doing little good?

Liberals always say our allies are worthless. In truth, they're always flawed. But usually better than our enemies.

The Taliban and al Qaida are resurgent. What the hell has Musharraf done?

Mushareff has helped us capture a number of Al Qaida leaders hiding in Pakistan - Abu Zubaydah and Khalid Sheikh Muhammed, who planned the 911 attack, for instance. His government isn't in control of its northwest provinces where Taliban and AQ. In fact, no Pakistani government ever has controlled this area. Its not for lack of trying. You can look up youtube videos of jihadis beheading captured Pakistani soldiers in this area.

Finally, why would you or anyone else believe that Musharraf would protect Bhutto who posed a threat to his control of Pakistan? Don't be so naive, Brumar.

The Wa Post had a story recently which said Mushareff and Bhutto were going to run on a united ticket. One as President, another as Prime Minister.

Once again in Pakistan, Democrats side with the jihadists and attempt to desabilize the country.

Every Democrat candidate has absurdly screamed that the Musharraf government must be investigated for a crime committed by Al-Qaeda and/or the Taliban.

How frustrating must it be for Al-Qaeda? Their ranks have been decimated by U.S. troops in Iraq and now their own claims of credit for assassinating Mrs. Bhutto are ignored by Democrats in America and liberals all over the world in their frenzy to blame Musharraf.

Here are the facts:

1. Mrs. Bhutto has been in excile for many years. She was forced out of office and out of the country because of criminal charges that her husband stole $2 billion from the Pakistani people in kickbacks on government contracts.

2. Mrs. Bhutto herself faced several charges of graft and corruption resulting from her husband's activities.

3. Musharraf did not need to let Mrs. Bhutto come back to Pakistan, ever. She was no threat to him from London.

4. Musharraf himself made the decision to let Mrs. Bhutto come back to Pakistan in hopes of working with her to form a stabilizing coalition to govern Pakistan and thwart the threat of extremist Islamic parties.

5. Musharraf convinced the Supreme Court to waive the criminal charges against Mrs. Bhutto so that she could return without fear of prosecution and jail.

6. The radical Islamists, including Al Qaeda, the Taliban, and ruthless northwest Pakistan war lords all announced on Mrs. Bhutto's return in October that they would kill her as another pro-democracy proponent and U.S. tool.

7. These are the same groups and people who have tried unsuccessfully at least eight times to assassinate General Musharraf as an enemy of radical Islam and American ally.

8. Mrs. Bhutto and Musharraf had the exact same enemies for the exact same reasons. Both are forces against the jihadists.

It is insanity to suggest Musharraf would allow Mrs. Bhutto to return from London where she was no threat to him only to murder her and throw the country into upheaval. Pure insanity.

Musharraf's best chance of retaining power, keeping Pakistan stable, and resisting the Islamic extremists was to have Mrs. Bhutto in Pakistan active in politics, sharing power, and offering a release of pressure for democratic rule.

The present situation is the most threatening to Musharraf of any time in his rule. THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT THE JIHADIST PLANNED.

But clueless Democrat children, who understand nothing of Pakistan or of any politics in the Middle East and Central Asia, want to make headlines by pointing fingers at Musharraf.

You need to grow up, Hitler Clinton, Osama Obama, Pretty Boy Edwards. You are now contributing greatly to the further destabilization of Pakistan. The result may soon be total chaos and that is the only pathway for the Muslim extremists to take control of Pakistan and her nuclear arsenal.
