I believe that Obama being a student of history is very aware that the longer a person sits in Washington, the farther they are removed from the people and the problems that they face each day.
Also the founding fathers wanted people to serve and leave the service of the country. Let someone else run and represent.

I agree that this is a gaffe..but maybe it underscores Michelle Obama's general dislike of politics? anything I've read points to her reluctant embrace of his running back to his early days in Chicago..I've seen her stump speeches and they are so personal, so not political-wife in it for the glitz of it all..dunno..these final days of campaign fatigue are most risky, he better watch his trap..
