That's a pretty complicated rationalization. Political hyperbole doesn't usually allow for the mental processes to come up with something like that.

If I had not seen it in published articles I would agree with you much more. I too believe that people remember things they agree with regardless of truth and forget things they don't agree with regardless of accuracy.
