Hi J.C. and thanks so much for your thoughtful post.

I think there is 'a time and a season for all things' and that FDR seems to have been the right leader for his moment in time.

Looking at what I perceive to be the set of problems our country will face going forward, I favor handing total control to the democratic party. I've decided for myself that the time and season for democratic party governance is at hand.

And I don't say this lightly. Several years ago I would have leaned toward a duality...having one party control Congress and the other control the White House.....to prevent either party from going to excess.

But that was when the GOP was still the grand old party. I truly don't know who or what the Republican party is anymore. They haven't governed in a way that has earned my confidence and hence my vote. They've wracked up a record of corruption and incompetence that bewilders me.....especially the incompetence because these people are surely educated and bright enough.

On the other hand, I'm not sure that the problems coming at us can be 'solved', so to speak, and if the dems are in control, they may simply be the party that went down with the ship.
I'll be voting a straight dem ticket regardless of the candidates but I don't really have a high level of confidence that things will magically become rosy.

Maybe I'm too gloomy, but I think the 2000 election will prove to be the most important election of my lifetime. Much opportunity was squandered and overcoming the consequences of that is going to be really difficult.
