"I think my statement supports your statement. Going green is a growth industry BECAUSE it's seen as a virtuous act."

Why is this a BAD thing Nadine?

"Come on, the last time I looked a Prius cost $9,000 more than a Corolla. Unless you're driving a taxi or gas costs $10 a gallon where you are, buying a Prius makes no economic sense.

So why are people buying them?"

Because they do not run the numbers!

Going green is a growth industry BECAUSE it's seen as a virtuous act.

That is such nonsense. You need to do some googling, girl.

Alternative energy is a growth industry because it's a growth industry.
Sales of solar wafers, modules and other related equipment have grown 40% a year for the last 5 years.

Deere Co. (farm equipment) is offering a plan to farmers in the prairie states to finance wind machines for the purpose of supplying power to the farm itself and selling back into the grid. Two machines can be established on one acre and the payback/ ROI is attractive enough that farmers are signing up. It's been awhile since I read about this, so I don't know how far along things have gotten.

Sales of hybrid vehicles are a tiny, tiny part of the whole 'green' movement, are more tied to conservation of energy than anything else, and probably do have some aura of virtue attached. As far as investing goes, I don't even think about hybrids.
