the weakening exchange rate and fed intervention to lower interest rates in the face of growing inflation sums it up nicely.

but please remember i have qualified my statement to "this moment in time"

long term i believe the US to be on a sounder footing than europe ,in part for demeografic reasons and in part for greater structural flexability.

here is the flip side to GOV debt to gdp....consumer debt to gdp and income
please note it is already 3 years old and has only gotten worse.

"Total household debt is at a level of around 90% of GDP and the average American now spends almost 20% of their disposable income servicing debt. This is in sharp contrast to Euroland where household debt stands at around 60% of GDP. "
