1) Did the engineers know that QCOM infringed BRCM patents when they developed the WCDMA chips? If yes, why did not the legal dept stop the project or at least negotiated with the patent holder - namely BRCM. If no, what kind of research did the patent lawyers do?

If you read some of the previous posts, it seems like they probably knew but thought Broadcom would want a cross-license. Instead Broadcom is playing a deeper game, holding out on signing the cross-license until they have exacted maximum damage.

what are you talking about? BRCM did not even OWN the patents when this was designed.

Talk about your stupid \posting, this one is wihtout any thought.

And the patent that is at stake is the one which pertains to RFID chips. Turn the radio off when not in the presence of the radio signal. Well, RFIDE chips turn off when there is no signal, as they get radiated power to turn on.

I think that Qualcomm should get the patent invalidated, as it is so obvious as to make one laugh.

This whole thread has turned into a bunch of whiners.

The end around is that Qualcommm will have a workaround ( I am positive they already do), they will walk around this patent, and the entire case will be moot.

but then you can try to find some nefarious dealings here.
