In order to prove who Christ was, he, Paul, had to cite old testament writings that coincided with the story of the life of Jesus. That is the reference to scripture you originally asked about.

Paul lived in the period Christ lived, No, the christ character came before the jewish revolt. At that time the Jewish leadership still had firm control of the country and were committed to support the Roman system. By the time of Paul the age of empire had begun, and the Jews were caught up in those groups who wanted to restore the republic (and increased autonomy for Judea). Paul evangelized at a time when the old community was falling apart. TP
