I suppose the Proliferation Security Initiative (something the Bush administration organized) member countries might catch it. Then again they might not and we wouldn't find out the failure till a mushroom cloud showed up over NY harbor (or San Francisco, Seattle, etc.) If that were to happen, what would prevent us from wiping Pakistan off the map? And if we know that, don't you think AQ knows that as well. Sure but don't forget we cannot wipe Pakistan off the map until they have wiped Northern California off the map - because terrorists are only terrorists after they have successfully proved that. What makes you think the Soviets would have stood by as Hitler tried to annex Russia....Hitler's and Stalin's little non aggression treaty notwithstanding...after all, they trusted each other about as much as they trusted a rattler. So then, the same thing would have happened to the German army that did happen to them....the Russian winter.....Russia's best defense....cut their legs right out from beneath them. I don't think they would have stood by. They would h/b crushed. It wasn't the Russian winter that beat the Germans, it was the Soviet army - which was armed by America. And if we know that, don't you think AQ knows that as well. Wiping Pakistan off the map after the fact wouldn't bring back our dead. And it would be a terrible thing to have to do. We're talking about the deliberate killing of tens of millions of mostly blameless men, women and children. At to what AQ knows, I can see them not caring. Their goal is to build a new caliphate ruling the world. If Pakistan has to be a casulty on the way to that goal, they are probably willing to pay the price. They would know a nuclear war between us and a Muslim country would cement the Muslim world into anti-Americanism. Something they desparately want. --------------------------------------------------- AQ taking over a gov't may be the best thing to happen......they can not act the renegade and get away with it so easily. Secondly, what do you think they would do with those nukes? I think they are not just big talkers. They would use any nuclear weapon they got hold of. If we received such a nuclear strike, what would you propose to do in response? Wipe out Pakistan? I really don't think it will come to that. I think that view is naive and ultimately rests upon the faith that barbaric fanatics (the kind who glory in beheading people, who plant bombs in babies blankets, who parade little children wearing bomb belts, etc) would be tamed if given power.
