You can have both to some extent as a result of modernization in foreign economies and the finite nature of natural resources.

Commodity prices will fluctuate, of course, but the underlying trends on most are up.

I think its critical to understand the rate at which some resources, such as oil and iron ore, are being sopped up by growth in the BRIC countries and elsewhere.

Remember stagflation??
