As for the young, they may not know much, but they vote, and that's what counts.

Those who know nothing of the issues facing this country could do us all a favor by NOT voting at all.

Well, KyrosL, even some of the dead have voted along the years too. The young can vote....most of our active Military are young. At least most of them are informed, and know why we are in Iraq and Afghanistan, etc in the first place.

Many of the young today, are less able than we were years ago. They play video games, don't study, we've dumbed down the Standardized tests, we make excuses for people who 'are too poor, too lazy, are a different color, may have come from a poor background, don't have two parents, may not have money,' etc etc etc....

Do you ever stop to think how many of the new Democrats who are in Iowa are ILLEGAL immigrants??? Isn't Iowa still an Ag State?

I actually wonder how many from Iowa are ILLEGALS, and how many are lawyers, telling them how to manipulate the system.

most horrendous foreign policy errors. Who would have thought that the Mujaheddin we supported in Afghanistan against the Soviets would morph into Al Qaeda?

I don't think that supporting them was an error. Instead of celebrating a great new imperial victory - and possibly annexing Afghanistan - the Soviets suffered a humiliating defeat which contributed to their eventual demise.

It is true that apparently there was no awareness that the Afghan war was used by the islamist extremists for recruiting and training of their "avantgarde". We underestimated them back then, and many of us still do today.

Experience in the chaotic world we live in does not mean much. A fresh perspective is a lot more valuable.

Experience - and especially having insight - helps. Waiting for a naive leader to gain experience can be too costly. This reminds me how I was shocked listening to Jimmy Carter after the Soviets invaded Afghanistan. He said that this act by the Soviets made him reconsider everything he ever thought about the USSR. Remember thinking - "Where the hell were you all your life, man? and WHAT exactly DID you think about the USSR up until this day?"
