The biggest problem with acceptance of more tax is that there is absolutely no confidence the money will not be wasted. There is a serious argument that the government beast should be starved of additional money - otherwise it just gets spent.

We have run away farm subsidizes - when crop prices are at record levels - we have runaway earmarks - when they were promised to be ended.

Until shown otherwise the best way to balance the budget is to slow spending and increase economic growth.
