Thompson failed to make a splash when he entered.

Thompson is a low key guy. The media "don't like" low key. They also don't like someone who leans right. Perhaps, they suffer from "eye candy" envy. :-)

Oddly, the most remembered debate comments thus far are Clinton's stubborn support for the New York illegal driver's license and Thompson's refusal to raise his hand as requested by the Des Moines moderator and her dumb question about global warming.

Most of my acquaintances think he is nuts to do this midwest, NH etc. avoidance thing. They say, "he wants to represent us all yet refuses to talk to us all". I can see their perspective.

OTOH, "if" Guiliani wins the GOP nomination and faces Obama, he will win big because Obama is over the top on his anti-war stance. Close Gitmo, get out of Iraq yesterday, forget the american soldier etc. Trash talking the military and/or effort won't win the '08 election.

Personally, I'm hoping for an Obama and Clinton finish and a Romney and Thompson finish in N.H. to tighten the race. Very unlikely to happen tho.

If Clinton finishes 3rd next week, the Team Clinton implosion will even be heard by her Hollywood buddies. The political cartoons and pundit spin will be most entertaining.

Slick Willy may even put the bad mouth on the IA, NH voters and a good portion of the media.
