Actually, the problem was not in the reported earnings. Intel blew out all records for a semi company in the January '06 report for q4 '05. The problem was AMD's seemingly unstoppable gaining of market share, along with hugely excessive Intel inventory of net-burst parts.

That's what I think too. Next week we should get a lift from the consumer electronics show. It hould highlight Intel's better position compared to AMD.
