I can't disagree with the idea this should have happened a lot earlier.

I blame the antiwar opposition which has been pushing for defeat since the beginning.

You understand that the "surge" is not only the extra 30,000 troops we put in Baghdad.....Twice that number (60,000) of Sunni's who were previously shooting at us turned their weapons on the Al Qaeda of Iraq group due an agreement that the Shiites would stop shooting at Sunni's. The Shiites stopped because their leader, Sadr, was pressured by Iran...... It shouldn't be viewed as a permanent solution yet.
So a whole lot more is going on then most people hear about in the news....
