I agree, but that is only because the convection is blocked (at least on this planet) by various atmospheric layers.

Just about all energy leaving the earth is in the form of black body radiation. All being defined as 99.9%. Just about all energy into the earth is black body radiation from the sun.

Convection plays a major roll in the time it take for the energy absorbed by the earth to radiate back into space. The known and measured properties of CO2 would predict that CO2 would increase thermal convection. That would to a very small degree tend to cooling the earth. Would the small ability of CO2 competing for 8% of the spectral black body radiation overall lead to a slowing of the transport of heat to higher altitudes and thus tend toward a warming of the planet.?

The measurements of the altitude latitude distribution of temperature vs the predicted by the Al Gore mentored IPCC shows no warming mechanism based upon the absorbing of heat energy by the CO2 at all levels of altitude.

In that a large part of the energy adsorbed in the tropics is conveyed to the poles by wind and currents and warms higher latitudes before being radiated back into space, The lower latitudes would have to show CO2 driven heating at altitudes that would cause more heat energy to be conveyed northward causing global warming in higher latitudes.

There is no CO2 mechanism in the current mix of earth's atmosphere to drive global warming at current levels and based upon the clarity of the current measured altitude latitude distribution of temperature, for even double or quadruple the current percentage of CO2. For every CO2 molecule in air(STP) is surrounded by 3000 other molecules of air.
