Well... whether it was a 'shame' or not, at least it was a realistic assessment of his prospects.

(Never could figure out how Hillary thought she'd overcome her negative numbers... which were usually right around where her positive numbers were, like 51/49, etc.)

Maybe she figured to run the tables EARLY in the Dem primaries (like Kerry)... then the Dem's would be 'stuck with her' and the anti-Bush, anti-GOP mood of the public would carry her to a narrow win.

Still... the insiders should have always know that a strategy like that would likely produce no 'coattails'.
