It's worse than an indictment; it's a conviction.

When the U. S. was running government deficits in the 1950s, economists would say cheerfully "We owe it to ourselves!"

Over ten years ago thoughtful economists were warning that any country that depends of borrowing from other countries is headed for very big trouble. Dollar signorage and military power have kept us afloat financially.
