watched some of world series of poker lastnight i guess it was a rerun. but some of the bluffs made no sense to me. one guy bluffed right away and another guy was short stacked and had a pair of tens, he sure wasnt going away. in another sequence a guy started betting like he didnt have a flush and then on the last card he suddenly bet like he did have a flush the other guy called and won and then congratulated himself on making the greatest call in the history of poker. then on another hand a guy had a winning hand ( 3 of a kind, i think) but checked instead of betting big, the other guy stayed in and caught a straight, which was predictable, then the first guy bet big when he was certainly no lock to win the hand was re raised and lost the hand. I wonder if this is all a result of sleep deprivation.

Thief is dragged by jeep, blinded by acid

Jalpaiguri, Jan. 7: A petty thief in the district was tied to a jeep and dragged for two kilometres by villagers who then mercilessly beat him up and poured acid into his eyes. The man had stolen a few betel nuts.

The whereabouts of the victim, Santosh Rai, 26, who was caught stealing betel nuts at south Ballalguri village in Jalpaiguri district, were not known after the incident.

Villagers caught hold of Rai, tied him to a jeep and dragged him to the panchayat office two km away where he was assaulted severely and acid was poured into his eyes.

The incident is reminiscent of the lynching of a thief in Bhagalpur, Bihar, in 2007, when a thief was beaten by a crowd and dragged by a motorcycle ridden by two policemen for stealing a gold chain.

The brutal incident in Jalpaiguri district, which occurred on Saturday, came to light when his brother lodged a complaint with the Madarihat police on Sunday that Santosh was missing. According to the brother, Santosh was last seen being taken towards the Torsha river by the mob. It was also alleged that his head was smashed with a stone. When contacted, Jalpaiguri superintendent of police S. Tripurari said the police was investigating the incident on the basis of Santosh’s brother’s complaint.

I'm thinking there probably is a bull market in India for sulfuric acid-- they seem to think it is the perfect compliment to all occasions.
