David Petraeus and Amb. Ryan Crocker will report again on the situation in Iraq. And before a session of the Senate Armed Services Committee, Petraeus and Crocker will face two of the three competitors for the presidency. Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) is the ranking Republican on the committee. Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY) ranks tenth out of thirteen Democrats. It is not only the rankings that will disadvantage Clinton. The befuddlement of Democrats at how to deal with Petraeus, Crocker and the whole issue of the war will be front and center for two days across every front page, on every television news and radio talk show. The Democrats’ Iraq incoherence has been on display since Friday.
