You willingly admit to the Christian "mystery" of the Trinity yet balk at the mystery of Polytheism?! Go figure.... Anyway, as I said before, the monotheist creed --any monotheist creed-- is fundamentally delusional, somewhat hubristic, and totalitarian. After all, even if there were a single "God" ruling or creating the whole universe, its "interaction" with mankind would still take the form of polytheism because that single, supreme being/entity could not have the same relationship with each and every human being! For the only way for God to enjoy an identical relationship with all human beings is to have created a mankind of interchangeable clones, where any person is the exact replica of the other --hence denying the uniqueness of every human being.... Somehow, the same is true for you and me. A father, for instance, although himself unique, doesn't enjoy the same relationships with all his kith and kin: his wife, his son, his daughter, his stepchildren, his workmates, his own father and mother, etc. Now, who among all his kith and kin can claim to have the BEST knowledge of him? Are they not ALL entitled to consider their own, personal, biased relationship with him as genuine, as valid? Who among them can tell the others, "You're wrong! You don't have a clue, I'm the only one who REALLY knows him best... because I'm his son/daughter/wife/workmate/....!" As you see, the legitimacy, the metaphysical relevance of polytheism stems not so much from the multiplicity of gods as from the diversity of humankind itself, from the innate incommensurability of us, the worshippers....
