2004 was still "war" time. About 60% of the country were still in the post 9-11 mode, just enough to suspend disbelief and let Bush play the great defender, which of course he isn't at all. Kerry surged ahead when the former Green Beret Jim Rassman came out of nowhere and told the world Kerry saved his life in Nam. That's when he surged past Dean and everyone else. And it was a true story. But the GOP organized the smearvets to try and turn true heroism into cowardice, treason and dishonesty. The smearvets all deserve to be boiled in oil. Kerry would have made a great president.
