The feeling of a place can be very different.

There is a nice time between the infrastructure being built, and before growth and expansion fills up the infrastructure. Business, travel, etc. can be done quickly and with much less frustration. With less infrastructure spending, there is more money for working capital, product development etc. Salaries can rise, increasing living standards for everyone.

The feeling of being connected is great.

What should your town have that it doesn't have yet ?

Maybe you could get your friends together to start something.

When San Francisco was a little past a frontier town, a number of doctors helped a young man start a medical bookstore, which later became a chain of technical bookstores.
