LIAR. The Pentagon Papers and other classified reports and testimonies (see the McNamara film THE FOG OF WAR) which have come out since 1967-1968 prove that by that date the Johnson White House and Pentagon knew they'd stepped in a huge turdpile and the war was unwinnable. That is exactly why LBJ stepped down and it was a classy through tragic move on his part. Bobby Kennedy was the next president, it seemed, and it would do what most people wanted, end it. But then the rightwing hawks killed him, and Nixon got in and the war ramped up again. Nixon claimed he was going to end it up it went on for five long years, and the entire time Nixon like LBJ knew it was unwinnable. You should read your history and lay off the rightwing spin revisionist history smear sites. Those buggers are serial liars, same gross dishonesty as the smearvets. FYI, I recommend a 1968 book by Eugene Lederer called "Our Own Worst Enemies". That book was sent to every congressman and started opening their eyes to the fact that all was lost in Vietnam even by 1968. The #1 reason was rampant corruption and the fact we were actually funding the VC indirectly. Another problem was like in Iraq our people never understood Vietnam, never spoke its language and didn't know the difference between one ethic group or another. We also hadn't read history, which proved that Vietnam had been occupied by all sorts of foreign powers for centuries and after WWII the allies betrayed them and gave them back to the French again instead of giving them independence.
