Until Globalstar has robust coverage with a new constellation, even at lower latitudes Iridium will be the pick of the systems.

I do recall thinking that polar flights are a small proportion of flights so are not very important.

There is time enough for Globalstar to get into the aviation market when the system is rebuilt. I'd rather have the equatorial regions and oceans covered with a few satellites around the equator at 10,000 km than worry about the poles.

In 5 years, Globalstar can put a few high altitude satellites in polar orbits to fill in some coverage and boost capacity overall. They could bring that forwards if Iridium seems unlikely to replace their constellation due to intense competition from the new Globalstar constellation.
