If I may answer for AS, Michael, the American public is pretty goddamned stupid. They elected GWB twice, or at least voted him close enough to steal the elections. You might not fall for it, but millions of Americans will take it seriously, and instead of Iraq, healthcare, the economy, etc, being at the center of the debate, we will have to listen to countless hours of Obama being defended from scurrilous charges. Have you heard about the "controversy" over whether intelligent design is a theory as deserving of being taught in the schools as evolution? AS can be pretty heavy handed sometimes, but what he is saying is basically 100% true. This is going to be a very very very ugly campaign, and after its over, if Obama is elected and you think he's just going to bring all Americans together because he's not a Clinton, you couldn't be more naive.
