"Here's a lesson Bush never learned and one that probably could have kept this country out of recession: You can't fight an expensive war AND cut taxes simultaneously without sending the U.S. economy into the tank."

The "Bush Bashers" have been claiming the economy has been in a recession ever since the war started. The Fed Chairman said yesterday that he STILL wasn't predicting a recession. That created a chorus of the usual suspects saying he was in bed with Bush!

Perhaps five years of war plus tax reductions hasn't got us there yet. If we do get there, I'm not sure that there is a cause and effect as your message implies. Clinton had 7 years of a good economy without a major war effort and his "economic downturn" didn't hit until the last year of his term either. The Bush tax cuts probably spared the country of a Clinton legacy recession. Even "Clinton Bashers" at the time weren't claiming that Presidential extramarital affairs cause economic downturns.

Economic cycles happen. Always have, always will.
