"You could post that same sentiment to the insult hurlers here like Jla. He almost never adds any actual point to the discourse. He only insults and attacks people. That is going to drive people away more than AS's posts. And from where I sit that is exactly the intent."

I could and I have. He and I have had some private discussions over it as well. He and I generally agree on principle even if our posting personas diverge a bit. We have come to an understanding that he wont sabotage actual discussions I am having with left wingers and I won't needle him about his approach. The main difference on threads like this one is that I aim to challenge myself by exploring ideas and finding ways to improve my own chains of reasoning. The best way I have found to do that is to challenge the reasoning of others, especially if I can get them to test my positions on various topics of interest.

Jlallen is a self proclaimed extreme right winger who's primary interest on this thread and a couple of others is to mock silly partisan nonsense that is left wing while mostly ignoring the same from right wingers. He is perfectly capable of rightwing criticism and does criticise the right wing when it suits him. The fact is, he is very capable of respectful, reasoned, and principled discussion. When he is engaged in such a format, which requires an absense of hidden agenda, that is what his colleagues get.

Frankly I don't have an issue with him that I feel needs to be addressed further and I admire his courage to stand on principles of decency when put to the test.
