I'm bad about buying stuff that I occasionally use, if I find it on sale. I have 4 shelves in my basement that looks like a small grocery store. A few months ago I decided to look at dates on some of the cans and packages. Some were at, or near the "sell by" date. I took a lot of it to the food bank. Now, I try to keep a better idea of what's there and use it sooner than later. I do the same with my freezer. My Kroger store marks down prime cuts of meat on the last day. I buy T-Bones and Rib Eyes for half price and freeze it. My Food Saver enables me to keep meat frozen for a year and it's just as fresh tasting as it was in the first place.
