I agree with all your comments.

And I was picturing catastrophic coverage as perhaps a beginning, something which could provide a transition to more comprehensive coverage IF that's what the public wanted and was willing to pay for.

What would likely, almost surely, emerge is comprehensive insurance, not just catastrophic.

Which is probably my main reason for being against a national catastrophic health insurance system.

Even if I didn't think it would extend beyond catastrophic insurance I probably wouldn't be a big fan, but I'd probably accept it, perhaps even like certain aspects of it.
