For me the key is that the GOP smear jockeys really don't have any ammo against Edwards. And the only way the GOP can ever make it close is to smear-smear-smear. Then cheat.

What are they going to say about Edwards that's frightening to swing voters? They are so out of ammo on Edwards they even had Coulter call him a "faggot" then planted a phony "Edwards love child" story with Drudge. So which is he, GOP, a playbvoy or a gay? Idiots. John and Elizabeth are a model couple. No way he plays around. And he's definitely 100% straight.

Also, since JFK name one democrat who's not from the south who has won the presidency. And JFK needed LBJ to use his clout to give him Texas to win. That was back when Texas was largely democratic.

U.S. Rep. Zoe Lofgren, whose 16th district includes much of San Jose, announced today that she is endorsing Sen. Barack Obama for president.

The endorsement comes as Democrats Obama, Sen. Hillary Clinton and former Sen. John Edwards race to shore up support in advance of California's Feb. 5 primary. The Obama campaign also opened a campaign office on East Santa Clara Street in San Jose Monday.

Many national polls show Obama gaining ground on Clinton, who is well known in California. Both candidates are counting on women voters, who make up 58 percent of likely Democratic voters, to give them an edge in the Golden State.

"This year, above all, we need inspiration," said Lofgren in a prepared statement released this afternoon. "We need a candidate and president who will summon us to unity, who will allow us to believe that America is a country whose ideals and principles matter and a country whose exceptional history can once again serve as a beacon of hope for the world."

Lofgren said that her adult children, Sheila and John, urged her to support Obama.

"Their reaction to Barack Obama reminds me so very much of the reaction young people of the same age had to Bobby Kennedy during his run for President," Lofgren said. "Bobby Kennedy's opponents weren't bad or incompetent people. But they lacked the inspiration that the times required. So it is today."

"Sen. Clinton and I are both baby boomers. We've both got plenty left to contribute to our country in the United States Congress. But I'm happy now to share the limelight with the next generation. I'm glad that someone with Barack Obama's intelligence, leadership and character can be our next President. It's time for a change."
