I propose that the games be continuous with no gaps in between. Just like investing.

You keep all your positions and they reset to $100 at the start time for the next game, in the proportions for each position held, unless a player drops out or gives other instructions.

The default could be keep playing, or drop out as this board discusses it and decides. I favor keep playing, except you pointed out that some players haven't posted in a long time. I don't think we want "dead players" playing especially if they win.

We allow two trades a month, so anyone who wants to start with $100 cash can just say start with $100 cash.

Anyone who doesn't like a position can close it out, with these rules for the last day of a game:

1. The closing positions are counted for determining the ranking in that game and for you reporting the positions held, how many beat the S&P, etc., for the record and for anyone interested in seeing those details (like buy AAPL and XOM and win).

2. The resetting to add to $100 total occurs "after" that report or just before the start of the next trading day.

We could implement this at the end of Game 7.

Then games don't have to end on a Friday, and can end on a month-end or quarter-end, or whatever we want.
