yeah I know, these have not been accepted before. But don't you think the kicker here is these high fuel prices. I mean come on when I had my midsize BMW525i (which I exchanged for a 323i), it was costing $60 per fillup and I was filling up once a week for a pretty average commute. Lots of people esp in CA have 60 mile commutes ONE WAY. And as for those who say gas prices are set to decline... a huge amt of the rise in oil is the state of the DOLLAR and that is going to take a long time to recover from.

I don't think "being green" in and of itself would cause people to adopt these new vehicles.... but green + high fuel prices just might.

Besides, these are just the first effort.

the ideal combination from a green/sustainable energy perspective is for a US produced electric car + solar panels on your roof. thats a completely green sustaining solution. Of course lots of people don't live in places where solar works year round. Its getting to be cheaper to implement solar in the west though, vs traditional fuels. Coal is going up every year.

enXco, an EDF EN Company, announces the dedication of the Sun Harvest Solar Project located on the grounds of the Fresno Adventist Academy in Fresno, California. The completed solar array, consisting of 247 kW of ground mounted solar photovoltaic panels, went fully operational earlier last month.

What about those weekend getaways or driving vacations? Concept Chevy Volt can tackle them.

At the start of your trip, you can drive approximately 40 miles on your charged electric battery. Then the range-extending power source will automatically come on to recharge the battery as required so that you can keep driving with either gasoline, E85 or biodiesel.

A trip like this will give you an estimated 50 equivalent miles per gallon using gasoline. Driving range between fill-ups could be as much as an outstanding 640 miles.(1)
