The "Greenspan Put" has quietly morphed into the "Bernanke Put" This seems to put a floor on the rate of market declines, at least prevents me and people like me from pressing down too hard on the "short" pedal. Did everyone notice what happened last week when the DOW hit 12500 and S$P hit 1380 simultaneously? A retest of these levels, and presumably a break lower - would tell everyone the markets are falling apart. I don't know if aggressive rate cuts can do anything at this point - other than smooth out the normal waves of the business cycle.
