Raps against me 'unfair': Hillary Clinton

WASHINGTON - Critics who claim Hillary Clinton plays the "victim card" at every opportunity had fresh ammunition Sunday as Clinton repeatedly complained about unfair treatment.

During her "Meet the Press" appearance on NBC, Clinton used "unfair," "untrue" or "unwarranted" six times to deflect questions.

For instance, when moderator Tim Russert implied she had likened Barack Obama to "demagogues like Huey Long" in an interview, Clinton bristled, "Oh, that is so untrue and unfair."

She also claimed several times her comments or policy positions have been "mischaracterized."

Her husband's remarks likening Obama's Iraq war stance to a "fairy tale" were also "unfairly and inaccurately characterized," she said.

Asked about criticism of remarks seeming to imply Obama is no Martin Luther King Jr., Clinton shot back: "It's such an unfair and unwarranted attempt to misinterpret and mischaracterize what I've said."

Clinton was in Russert's face throughout the interview. "I can't let you get away with that mischaracterization," she said at one point.

That iconic moment in New Hampshire last week when she teared up - and women voted for her in droves, giving her an unexpected victory - resurrected Hillary-as-victim chatter.

"Obama has gotten a free ride while she's been held to a tougher standard," a Hillary defender argued Sunday.

Asked about columns by two prominent female columnists on that point, Clinton replied, "I am, I think, very clearly someone who's gone through a tremendous amount of criticism, you know. That's fine."

I also saw her crying jag and here's what I saw: Yes, those tears were real, and she was about to cry for real... but, she was not crying for the reasons she verbalized at that moment, she was crying because she knew she was going to lose the NH primary, but then tried to sound appropriate with a remarkably pompous and grandiose comment about "saving this country before it's too late"... what? Doesn't that sound a bit over the top to explain her tears? To save the country? Of course it's grandiose, very overblown, but this illustrates how pathetically desperate she is and how insincere her verbalization was to explain the tears...

Her whole crying stunt is very much like the newly convicted felon going to prison making a comment before the cameras stating that he's sorry for all the pain he caused and he has now found God, or some other baloney... he may be truly regretful, but not for committing the crime, but only for getting caught... these people are human, they can express legitimate emotion, but their verbal comments to explain the emotion at the time are completely insincere, self centered and self directed, there is no regret beyond losing the game, losing the primary, getting caught, or whatever, you can fill in the blank here for any special occasion... nothing changes, they are still who they are, but now lie again to solicit understanding and compassion... the big mistake we make as the viewer of this crying is that we assign our own innocence to the tears, we feel our own humanness, we see our own vulnerability, and then we begin to feel unwarranted compassion... meanwhile, we should see it for what it really is, con men and women continuing to fool us with their scams and lies...
