Rod harvests when the fruit is ripe, so there is a good rich Zin flavor, but not overripe like the Turley et al style where the alcohols go through the roof and there is no acid balance. To me, even though a few sits of the overripe style can be fun when they are young, it is ultimately uninteresting wine that falls apart very quickly. Rod's, by comparison, like Joe's before him, just last and last and last, not only balanced, but somehow retaining a good portion of their young fruit.
